MRS. E. D. BECK DIES AFTER BRIEF ILLNESS Funeral Service for Fort Smith Matron Will Be Held At Mortuary Friday Mrs. E. D. Beck, 311 North Twenty-second street, for 30 years an outstanding worker in church, fraternity and philanthropic circles of Fort Smith, died in a Fort Smith hospital Thursday morning at 11:20 o'clock as the result of a brief illness. Mrs. Beck had not been in good health for several months. Her condition, however, became alarming only Wednesday, when she was taken from home to the hospital. Born in Longview, Texas, Jan. 27, 1879, Mrs. Beck before her marriage was Miss Lucy Lane. She came to reside in Fort Smith more than 30 years ago and during the entire time had been identified with the various civic and religious activities of the city. She was a charter member of the Fort Smith Sunshine club, member of the Woodmen Circle, the Woman's Benefit association and was one of the most active workers in the First Methodist church. Survivors are her husband, Edward Dalton Beck, a sister, Mrs. Anna F. Beamer, Gladewater, Texas, and a brother, J. Melton Lane of Hearne, Texas. The brother and sister are en route to Fort Smith. Funeral service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock in the chapel of the Fentress mortuary. Burial will be in Forest Park cemetery. Dr. H. C.
