Bio

After a brave and valiant fight, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, George Ernest Turner, left this life March 26, 2000, returning home to his Heavenly Father. George was a generous and loving man who gave unselfishly of his time, talents and material blessings. George was born on January 24, 1931, the son of Ernest Quinn and Dorothy LaVell Harmon Turner. After graduating from Murray High School in 1949, he joined the Utah Air National Guard, 191st Fighters Squadron, during the Korean War. He married his beloved and best friend, Bettie Lou Campbell, October 5, 1951. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. George was the co-owner of Spray Texture & Drywall Systems, Inc., one of Utah's largest texturing and drywall contractors. He was an avid sportsman, a great athlete and coach. He loved boating and spending time at his cabin with his family. One of George's lifelong passions was working with the youth, especially in the scouting programs. George loved restoring old cars. He served his church as a counselor in the Bennion 3rd Ward Bishopric, and twice as a high councilor in the Taylorsville and Bennion Stakes. George is survived by his loving wife and caregiver, Bettie; children, Terry and Kim Turner, Draper, UT, Susan and Bob Park, Bennion, UT, Julie and Paul Meldrum, Bennion, UT, Danny and Lynette Turner, Kearns, UT, Corey Turner, US Air Force, Ramstien, Germany; 16 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brother, Robert Quinn Turner, Winter Haven, FL, and sister, Donna Day, St. George, UT. Viewing to be held Tues., March 28, 2000, where friends and family may call between the hours of 6-8 p.m. at the Memorial Estates Chapel, 6500 So. Redwood Road. The funeral will be held Wed., March 29, in the Bennion Heights 3rd Ward Chapel on 5775 So. 2700 West at 12 noon. A viewing will be held in the ward house one hour prior to the service.
