Lt. Quinton Bailey, first pilot on a B-24 bomber based in England with the 8th US Air Force, has been missing in action since 12 October 1944 following a mission over Germany according to a message received by is parents and his wife. Lt. Quinton Bailey entered the service on 12 August 1942 and finished his operational training at Pueblo, Colorado Army Air Base. On this base, over 50 crews, Lt. Quinton Bailey's crew was rated third best, and out of first pilots, he was one of six recommended for promotion. On a letter written 11 October 1944, Lt. Quinton Bailey told his parents that one one mission his B-24 had seven holes in it when he returned to base but none of the crew was injured. A graduate of Haskell High School with the class of 1939, Lt. Quinton Bailey was connected with the International Harvester Company at Sweetwater before entering the service The Haskell Free Press November 3, 1944 front page Lt. Quinton Bailey and his crew departed from England on a mission to Osnabrück, Germany's railyards and at 11:00 am, Lt. Quinton Bailey's bomber suffered such damaged by enemy anti-aircraft fire while over the target that it fell to earth. Lt. Quinton Bailey was stationed in England with the 8th US Air Force since July 1944. His group had completed its 102 company mission before Lt. Quinton Bailey went down. Born and raised in Haskell, he graduated from Haskell High School in 1939 lettering in football and basketball during his last two years. After finishing high school he worked for several local firms before accepting a position with International Harvester Company in Sweetwater where he and his wife were living when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps on 12 August 1942. He entered Cadet Training at San Antonio in March 1943 and received his commission and pilot's wings on 7 January 1944 at Ellington Field in Houston with a class of 249 First Pilots.
