Chandler Mason Brown, 88, of Clifton, Texas, died Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, at the First United Methodist Church of Clifton. Interment with military honors will be 1 p.m. following the service in the Bellwood Memorial Park in Bell County. Chandler Brown was born in Cameron, Texas, to the late Marion Chandler Brown and Ella Mae Willingham Brown. After graduating from high school, Chandler flew for the United States Air Force from Oct. 29, 1940, to Oct. 3, 1945, serving the 15th Air Force with the 376th Heavy Bombardment Group in San Pancrazio, Italy, and completed 50 missions in Europe during World War II. For his heroic service, Chandler was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with three Oak Clusters and ETO ribbon, six bronze stars, and the American Defense Ribbon. He married Anne Strnad on June 20, 1946. After his service to our country, Chandler worked for American Airlines for 33 years, retiring as a Captain, and became a full-time rancher when he bought a ranch in 1957 near Lake Whitney. He was a very successful breeder of Santa Gertrudis cattle for many years. Everyone loved and respected Chandler as soon as they met him. He was a kind, gentle, quiet man with enormous faith in God and in his family. Chandler is survived by his children, Dianne Cannestra, Mark Brown, and Denise Carter; grandchildren, Sherry Seabolt, Joshua Brown, and Justin Brown; and great-grandchildren, Christopher Duncan, Carson Seabolt and Chandler Seabolt.
