CLAUDE BALLARD PASSED AWAY MONDAY NIGHT Claude S. Ballard passed away in the State hospital at Jacksonville Monday night, October 26, as the result of a cerebral hemorrhage which he suffered about three weeks ago. Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Fleming Funeral Home in this city with Rev. Robert Van Meigs in charge. Interment will be in the Arthur cemetery. Mr. Ballard was born near Cadwell on November 30, 1889, the son of John and Clare Ballard. He spent practically his entire life in the Cadwell community. He engaged in farming and also worked at the elevator there. in 1911 he was married to Miss Jennie Matthews, who survives. To this union were born ten children, one daughter, Mildred, dying in childhood. The surviving children are: Russell Ballard, Lloyd Ballard, John Ballard, Mrs. Reta Burke, Mrs. Marjorie Schmitz, Marcella Ballard, Betty Ballard and Rosemary Ballard, all of Detroit, Mich.; and Caroline Ballard at home.
