"Funeral services for Calvin "Cal" Dorau age 84 of Fremont, NE will be Saturday, August 15, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Christ in Wisner, NE. Burial will be in the Wisner Cemetery with military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Kuzelka-Minnick Funeral Home in Wisner and will continue on Saturday from 9 a.m. till service time at the church. Cal passed away on Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Fremont Area Medical Center. Calvin John Dorau was born April 5, 1925 at Wisner, NE to Otto and Eleanor (Biehle) Dorau. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Wisner, NE. Cal attended Cuming Co. rural school district #7 and graduated from Wisner High School in 1942. He served in the United States Army in 1946. On June 30, 1946, he was united in marriage to Audrey Thorman at the Congregational Church in Wisner, NE. The couple farmed south of Wisner prior to operating Cals Painting and Decorating. In 1969, he purchased the Gambles Store in Wisner and operated it until 1981 with the motto If we dont have it, you dont need it. While in Wisner, Cal was a member of the Wisner Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department, the Wisner Chamber of Commerce, Wisner American Legion Post #85, served on the school board for School District #34 and established the Farmers Market in Wisner. In 1981, the couple retired to Fremont. He later worked at Alco in Fremont and was a rural carrier for the Fremont Tribune for over 20 years. Cal enjoyed making crafts, woodworking, fishing, bowling, playing cards, singing at weddings and funerals, making his homemade wines, and was an avid train enthusiast.
