Bio
A well known civic leader and businessman in DeSoto and Cedar Hill died Friday. George H. Dlabaj was born Oct 23, 1934 in the Alma community of Ellis County. Interment was in Laurelland memorial park in Dallas on Monday He was elected to the DeSoto city council in 1963 and served as mayor pro tem. Dlabaj was elected to the DISD board of trustees in 1970. He was named as the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce's Most Outstanding man in 1970. Dlabaj joined the Desoto Volunteer Fire Department in 1961 and was an active member until the department became a full time entity in 1981. He also Coached pee wee baseball in the 1960's and began his grocery career, at 14 at a small Oak Cliff store. He is survived by his wife, Collene Dlabaj of DeSoto; one son; Mike Dlabaj of waxahachie; two daughters Brenda Ezell of Duncanville and Sherry Blake of DeSoto; five sisters Mary Adamick of Grand Prairie, Adelle Zmelik of Mesquite, Dorothy McKissick of Dallas, Margie Bobalik of Dallas and Viola Zmolik of Mesquite and seven Grandchildren.
