Bio

John Charles Robbins was born on May 2, 1899. His parents were John S. Robbins and Marianna Genevieve "Jennie" Bigley Robbins. In 1918, when he signed his WWI Enlistment Card, John was living in Millersview, Concho County, and working on a farm. For the 1910 and 1920 Censuses, he was living with his parents and siblings on the family farm in Concho County, Texas. When he was 21, John married 18-year-old Hattie Ray Wimberley, the daughter of Isaac Jackson Wimberley and Texana Belle Mayes Wimberley and the granddaughter of Pleasant Wimberley and Amanda Jackson Wimberley. John and Hattie had at least four children--one daughter and three sons. The couple moved their family from Concho County where John's parents lived to Dallas County and to Llano County where Hattie's parents lived. When he was 45, on May 19, 1944, John suffered a coronary thrombosis and died in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas. At the time, he was working as a carpenter in the shipyards; so he was probably visiting in the area. He was buried near his parents and several siblings in Millersview Cemetery, Millersview, Concho County, Texas. Near his grave also is that of his sister Jessie's daughter Joneviewe Wimberley. His sister Jessie had married Hattie's brother Andrew. Widowed at the age of 41, Hattie later married a Mr. Stovall and then, in 1969, Jim Cummins. Hattie died at the age of 92 in Llano, Llano County, Texas.
