Bio
Born 15 Feb 1838 in Magor, Monmouthshire, England. He immigrated to the United States in 1856. George homesteaded near Richland, Colfax, Nebraska Territory. He enrolled 24 Oct 1862 in the Nebraska Volunteer Cavalry, Company B, 2nd Regiment, and served the Union Army during the Civil War. He was discharged 4 Sep 1863 at Omaha, Douglas, Nebraska. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic. He married Charlotte Adelaide "Addie" Skinner 30 Apr 1865 at El Dorado, Colfax, Nebraska. They had nine children. Addie passed away from complications after delivering their last child. George served in public office as a Colfax County Commissioner from 1876-1880. During this time George married the young widow Samantha Jane "Jennie" (Phillips) McNeil 19 Feb 1878 at Columbus, Platte, Nebraska. George and Jennie had six children. George became a United States citizen 13 Mar 1878, at Schyler, Colfax, Nebraska. During the hardships of the 1890's the family relocated to Cherokee Co., Kansas in 1895; and later to Fillmore Co., Nebraska in 1900. He, Jennie and their sons Guy and Milt, later farmed south of Emmet, Holt, Nebraska; moving there about 1903. George William Lawrence died at his farm 9 Mar 1924. Married: 1) Charlotte Adelaide Skinner Married 30 Apr 1865.
