HOLDREGE - Paul Joseph Jones, 91, of Holdrege died Saturday, Oct. 19, 2002, at Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Saints Catholic Church in Holdrege with the Rev. Steve Cooney officiating. Burial with military honors will be at Prairie Home Cemetery in Holdrege. Visitation will be until 9 p.m. today at Nelson-Harris Funeral Home in Holdrege with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. A rosary service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to the church. He was born on a farm near Cambridge to James and Mary (Gannon) Jones. He attended rural school near Cambridge. The family moved to Seward where he graduated from high school in 1929. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Company M, 134th Infantry Division. He served two years in the European Theater and took part in the invasion of Normandy on Omaha Beach. He was honorably discharged as a lieutenant colonel of infantry. Following the war, he attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and graduated with a degree in pharmacy. On Aug. 31, 1949, he married Muriel Holley in Lincoln. They had lived in Holdrege since 1951. He worked as a pharmacist at the Brewster Clinic and Hospital in Holdrege until he retired in 1981. His wife died Jan. 14, 2000. He was a member of the church where he was active in the Knights of Columbus. He was a charter member of the Elks Lodge 2062, the American Legion and VFW and the Nebraska Pharmacists Association. Survivors include son, Jon of Grand Island; daughters, Peggy Hatt of Omaha and Sue Tetanich of Goose Creek, S.C.; sister, Grace Bach of Sacramento, Calif.; and seven grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister. Paul and Joy also delivered the Omaha World Herald after they retired and you could always count on the paper by the door and at a given time.
