Bio

Co H 97th Indiana Infantry. Died at Rome, Ga., July 29, 1864, of wounds received in action at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain., Ga. -Indiana AG Vol. 8 His widow, Sarah Bonewell Tipton, received a Widow's Pension, until she remarried in 1866 to John W. Skaggs. Four children of Samuel and Sarah Tipton received Minor's Pensions. Anna M., born 28 Dec 1855. Caroline B., born 8 Mar 1858. Selby born 21 Aug 1860. William Samuel, born 4 May 1863. William J. Bonewell was appointed guardian.
