Bio
Billy Joe Maler, 70, of Bellmead, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2009. Memorial services will be 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jody Gousset officiating. Visitation will be 3 p.m. Friday, before the service. Billy Joe was born Sept. 22, 1938, in Abbott, Texas, to Joe John and Matilda (Skarpa) Maler. He married the love of his life, Patricia Detterman in April 1957. He dedicated over 30 years of his life to law enforcement, where he served as Chief of Police at Lacy Lakeview and Bellmead and later retired from the West Police Department in West. He also served as a member of the Texas National Guard. Billy Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Patricia; his sister, Rudell Cathey; and a granddaughter, Angel Montgomery. Survivors include his son, Jeff Maler and wife, Tami of Axtell; daughters, Denise Hillin and husband, Carl of China Spring, and Jeannine Jennings and husband, Jerry of Meridian; grandchildren, John Jennings, Whitney Jennings, Jeffrey Maler Jr., Tricia Maler, Justin Hillin, Ashley Harwell, Justin Harwell and his wife, Jennifer, Wesley Hillin and his wife, Christi and Sallie Hillin Gordon and her husband, Robert; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
