Lucille Bell was born October 10, 1915 at Banty, Oklahoma to Carl and Thetus Bell. The family moved to Bennington a few years later where Lucille received her education. She met Travis Morton while in her teens and they married in 1932. To that marriage they had a son, Kenneth W. Morton in the fall of 1933. After a short marriage, she moved on with her life. Lucille met Paul Hauk, a farmer and rancher from Wade, Oklahoma and they married on August 9, 1939 in Durant. Paul's brother and sister-in-law, Willie and Pauline Hauk witnessed their marriage. To that marriage a daughter, Paula Carole was born. They continued to live in Wade operating the farm and ranch for the next 50 years. After Paul's death in 1989, Lucille moved to Durant. Lucille was a homemaker and very active in the Wade community. She was a charter member of the Wade Baptist Church that was established in 1955. She served as pianist for 37 years. When she accepted that responsibility, she had not played the piano since she was a young girl but she was willing to accept the challenge. Her friend, Mary McIntire, led the singing, which would stop, when Lucille couldn't quite figure out the sharps and flats. When she found the right note, the singing would continue. She was active in other areas of the church serving on various committees that helped the church to function. She volunteered for the week long Vacation Bible School that was held each summer. When a revival was held in the spring, Lucille always took her turn cooking for the pastors. The regular pastor of the church came from the Fort Worth seminary every Sunday and would stay at a home for Sunday lunch and dinner. Lucille was always helping to secure a list of volunteers to help with this endeavor. The community harvest supper was held each fall and was a treat for all in the community. Everyone looked forward to tasting the wonderful dishes Lucille would bring to add to the food table. She was known for her delicious meals. Lucille was a member of the Home Demonstration Club and would can special jars of vegetables for the fair. She won many blue ribbons throughout the years. As a concerned parent and community member, she assisted with school functions at both Wade and Bokchito where her husband served on the school boards of both schools. For many years the entire family would attend the Oklahoma Cattleman's Association meeting in Oklahoma City. It was a treat for Lucille to stay in a hotel and eat food that someone else cooked. She also enjoyed watching the style show presented for the ladies attending the meeting. Lucille joined the First Baptist Church when she moved to Durant. She loved the ladies in her Sunday school class. When her health would not allow her to attend, she enjoyed watching the service on television. She loved her pastor, Brother James. For the last few months of her life, Lucille enjoyed the company of her special caregiver, Ruth Musselman. Without Ruth, Lucille would not have been able to live the last few months in her own home. Lucille will be remembered by all as a kind woman. She will especially be remembered by her family as a loving mother and grandmother. Her family was the center of her life.
