DESERET NEWS WEDNESDAY JULY 20, 1988 Jesse Stewart Tuttle, 82, lifetime rancher, politician and government employee, died Tuesday, July 19, 1988, in Salt Lake City. The fourth of nine children born to Milton and Nillie Tuttle, Mr. Tuttle was born in Castle Gate, Utah, March 27, 1906. His family later moved from the small mining camp to a farm in Orangeville, Emery County, where he spent his early years. In 1948, Mr. Tuttle became involved with the National Farmers Union and worked with them to build a state charter for Utah. He was elected president of the Utah Farmers Union in 1954. Mr. Tuttle served eight years in the Emery County assessor's office and 10 years as a justice of the peace where he handled 1,600 cases, including eight murder cases. He worked 18 years with the Department of Agriculture under the administration of six different presidents of the United States. He worked seven years with the Department of Commerce helping to develop the Four Corners area. He also helped to organize the first Rural Telephone Co-op in America. Mr. Tuttle was called to serve an LDS mission in Alabama, Georgia and Florida in 1924. Funeral services will be held Friday, July 22, at 1 p.m. in the Castle Dale Stake Center. Friends may call at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 Higland Drive, on Thursday from 6-8 p.m. and at the Stake Center in Castle Dale on Friday an hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Orangeville City Cemetery, Orangeville, Utah.
