Bio

GEORGS, C. W. C. W. Georgs, a prominent manufacturer of Beaumont, laid the foundation of his present large sash, door and blind factory in Beaumont in 1895. The establishment has since been developed by his business energy into one of the largest plants of the kind in Southeast Texas About thirty-five men are on the payroll throughout the year, and the products of the factory go to all points in this part of the state and into Louisiana and Mexico. Mr. Georgs was born in Germany, March 22, 1849. His father, August Georgs, a tailor, died in Germany in 1851. After attending the schools of his native land a few years, he emigrated to the United States, in 1859, and though a boy in years soon began working on a farm near Milwaukee, and later in a limekiln. He learned the carpenter's trade, and in 1869, going South, became a journeyman in the real sense of the term, working at his trade at different points in Mississippi, Louisiana and other states. In 1881 he began business for himself near Donaldsonville, Ascension parish, Louisiana, as a general contractor in lumber contracting, brick contracting, excavating, handling sugar cane, etc. In 1885 he moved his headquarters for this business to New Iberia, Louisiana, and also established there a sash, door and blind factory. When this plant burned in September, 1895, without insurance, he came to Beaumont. Mr. Georgs affiliates with Aurora Lodge, No. 293, A. F. & A. M., and the chapter of Royal Arch Masonry at New Iberia. He is a Democrat in politics. He was married in 1881 to Miss Helen Kloss, of Louisiana. At her death in 1897 she left the following children: Clara, Lottie, Tinee, Dora and Luella.
