------------------------- BESSEY, Lemuel (aka Lemuel Bessie in newspaper.) Died on Tuesday last at Elkhorn City. (27 June 1884 newspaper) Later in the paper said he died Monday morning at 7:30am. Had been in bad health but had improved & cultivated corn on Wednesday. On Sunday afternoon became ill with severe cramps in the breast and the doctor was called but he could not relieve him & on Monday he breathed his last. 4 July 1884 issue: Lemuel Bessey died age 58-8-19. He was born 1825 in Scott, Cortland Co. NY. Resided at Elkhorn City for 18 years. Had a large family of 7 sons & 4 daughters, 2 are deceased. All children except Frank & Mrs. Peter SIMPSON living at Papillion we believe were at the deathbed of their parent. (It is believed that he was later removed to the "Present" Elk City Cemetery.) (Born 10 Dec. 1825. Married 22 Oct. 1856 to Esther A. PURCHASE in Scott, Cortland Co. NY.
