Bio
Emily Sue Whitehead, age 93 and a lifelong resident of Rockwall, TX, passed away June 6, 2014. She was born May 12, 1921, in Rockwall to Ollie L. and Opal (Green) Steger. The Stegers are a pioneer family of Rockwall County and Sue's great-great grandmother Shaw helped to organize the Methodist Church in Rockwall. Sue was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rockwall for 83 years, a member of OES Chapter of Royse City, TX, and a former member of the Rockwall Chapter for 50 years. She graduated from Rockwall High School, Class of 1938, and attended both North and East Texas State Teachers College in Denton, TX, and Commerce, TX. After receiving her education, Sue worked during war years as Chief Clerk of the Office of Price Administration, the Rations Board for Rockwall County. After 1944, she worked in the sales office of Southern Aircraft in Garland, TX, where turbines for war aircraft were made. After the war, Sue worked as a bookkeeper and receptionist for Martin Funeral Home and met the love of her life, Robert C. Whitehead, who was still in the Reserve Army escorting war casualties. After a whirlwind courtship, they were married and Sue then worked in the title business with her father, where she remained for many, many years. Sue is survived by one son, the light of her life: Robert Charles "Bobby" Whitehead; one granddaughter: Courtney Suzanne Whitehead; one grandson: Robert Casey Whitehead and wife Caitlin; three great grandsons: Coen, Mac and Chase Whitehead; one great granddaughter; Savannah Lollar; two loving nieces: Cyndie Sue Patrick and Diana Wade Chapman; one nephew: O.L. Steger III; sister-in-law: Anna Wade Steger; loving caregivers: Alma Dixon and Monica Dixon; special friend: Marita Martin; her "old" Rockwall friends; special cousins: Robert Carl Steger of Brownwood, TX, and Pauline Fernache of Seattle, WA; and other extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband and soul mate: Robert C. "Bob" Whitehead, in 2002; by her parents; and one brother: O.L.Steger, Jr. Funeral services will be held 10:00am, Thursday, June 12, 2014, at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel. Interment will follow in Rockwall Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday prior to the funeral from 9:00 to 10:00am.
