Bio

Services were held in the H.S. Smith Funeral Home Chapel Thursday afternoon for Mrs. Vera Katherine Cole, 72, who died at Doctors Hospital in Poplar Bluff Tuesday, October 3. The Rev. Frank Payne officiated and burial was in Maple Cemetery. Mrs. Cole was born in Wayne County, Tenn., November 23, 1898, the daughter of Benjamin F. and Elizabeth Long. On January 20, 1918, in Waynesboro, Tenn., she was married to George Cecil Cole, who preceded her in death June 25, 1942. The family moved from Tennessee to Pemiscot County 56 years ago. For the past few years she had made her home in Neelyville with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Graham. She was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors are one son, Paul L. Cole of Little Rock, Ark.; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Graham of Neelyville, Mrs. Louise Parker of Aurora, Ill., Mrs. Ruth Rogers of Portageville, Mrs. Pauline Mills of Obion, Tenn., and Mrs. Christine Beaird of Steele; One brother, Joe Long of Newport, Ark.; a sister, Mrs. Myrtle Fowler of Marianna, Ark.; 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
