Bio

A memorial service for Vivian Ann Boyd of Chadron was held Saturday, June 6, at Chamberlain Chapel with Dr. Russ Seger officiating, with a reception following at the American Legion Hall. Her remains will be interred with those of her late husband at the National Cemetery of the Pacific ("Punchbowl" in Honolulu. Mrs. Boyd died June 4, at Chadron Community Hospital. She was 81. She was born May 22, 1928, in Hay Springs to Reuben and Opal (Gibbs) Wood. The family moved to Chadron when she was seven or eight years old. A hard-working young lady, she held employment though most of her teen years and graduated from Chadron College High School in 1947. She married Cecil Ray Boyd on August 26, 1948, and the couple raised four children together in Chadron. In addition to her roles as a wife, mother, and homemaker, Mrs. Boyd cooked and bartended for a number of local establishments over the years. She was a member of the Elks Club, VFW Auxiliary. She volunteered at the VA Medical Center in Hot Springs. Taking great pleasure in her family, she helped plan and organize many reunions. She loved to travel and visited family in Germany and Hawaii, as well as several other locations. She enjoyed walks, puzzles, playing cards, bowling, and spending time with her girlfriends. Survivors include two sons, Carman of Chadron and Thomas of Perry, Ga.; two daughters, Donna Jinbo of Mililani, Hawaii, and Roxie of San Francisco, Calif.; brother Edgar "Pete" Wood, of St. George, Utah; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother's Eugene, Clifford, LaVern, and Virgil. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Chadron Volunteer Fire Department, with special thanks to the rescue squad.
