Services for Mrs. Banie Kincaid were held at Laughlin-North Funeral Chapel in Abilene officiated by O.B. Proctor, minister of the North Park Church of Christ, Dr. Orval Filbeck of Abilene Christian College, and W.D. Newsom of Abilene. Mrs. Kincaid moved to Brown County with her parents in 1877 when Brownwood was not in existence and trading posts were far apart. The Lyon family moved to Taylor County in 1880 establishing a home in an area no known as the Moro community. Mrs. Kincaid came to Buffalo Gap with her parents in 1884. She married her husband, J.L. Kincaid in 1903. Mrs. Banie graduated from the Presbyterian College in Buffalo Gap in 1890 and taught school in Buffalo Gap, schools near Potosi, Merkel, and in Runnels County. In 1910, Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid bought the Lyon Hotel, which was established in Buffalo Gap by her parents, and it has been her home since. Her husband preceded her in death. Mrs. Kincaid, a Republican, was appointed postmaster in Buffalo Gap in 1930 and served until her retirement in 1945. The post office in those years was located at the front of the hotel. With no children of her own, Mr. and Mrs. Kincaid raised two cousins - Mrs. Bessie Maxwell and Mrs. Tisha Maxwell Afflerbaugh. Ony other close relatives are one nephew - Robert Craig Lyon Lynn and a niece - Magaret Euler. Mrs. Kincaid was a charter member of the Buffalo Gap Church of Christ.
