Served his country in the Air Corp. Finished his missions and volunteered for another. During this mission, enemy fire left him paralyzed. He and others with spinal injuries were sent to a VA hospital to die as the medical community did not know how to treat this type of injury. Amazingly a large number of them survived, Edward included. He married his nurse, and they continued their bond til his death. His nickname was 'Shorty'. I asked another of the spinal cord injured VETS if he know if Ed was called Shorty before or after he required the wheel chair. He laughed and said that Ed had not been very tall before his injury.
