Willie Maude Cottle went to be with her Heavenly Father, at the age of 103, on Thursday evening, January 18, 2013, at home, surrounded by her loving family. Willie Maude was born the fifth of eight children to Thomas Lee Snowden and Lou Ella Hague Snowden in the Knobb Springs Community of Bastrop County, Texas on September 28, 1909. She grew up in McDade, Texas and spent her early childhood on the family farm. After graduating from Bastrop High School, she attended Mary Hardin Baylor and the University of Texas, where she studied English and Botany. In 1934, she married her childhood friend who would become the love of her life, Wilbur Walter Cottle, Sr. Willie Maude worked hard all her life; she worked while attending school beginning in the 11th grade and eventually dedicated her life to her husband and children. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ; dedicating her time and service to every congregation she attended. She loved to play bridge and attend the symphony with her husband and friends. After Wilbur's retirement, they enjoyed traveling recreationally in Europe, and while there, they volunteered their time helping with several Church of Christ Congregations. She was preceded in death by both her parents; her husband of 57 years, Wilbur Walter Cottle, Sr.; her three sisters, Mamie, Lela, and Velma; and her three brothers, Otho, Cecil, and Hague. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to all of her caretakers, who took such wonderful care of her during the past few years and became so loved by her. (Elgin Funeral Home)
