Alonzo F. Weems was born in June 1877 in Winnsboro, Wood County, Texas to Winnie Mae Patrick , b.1856 Texas, and William L. Weems , b.1852 Texas. "Lon" was the only child born of this marriage, but he had six siblings born to his father, William L. and Wm's second wife, Sarah "Sally" Weems, b.1858 Alabama. Birth order and names of these seven children are: 1. (Alonzo F. "Lon" Weems, b: 1877 in Texas) 2. Eva Mae Weems, b: 1883 in Texas 3. Charlie Weems , b: 1886 in Texas 4. Josephine B. Weems , b:1889 in Texas 5. Vann D. Weems, b: 1890 in Texas 6. Minerva Weems, b: 1895 in Texas 7. J. Odis Weems, b: 1899 in Texas In June of 1901, Lon married Miss Augusta "Gussie" Ann Green, b: 1880 in Alabama. Their children were: 1. Clarence E. Weems b: 1902 in Texas 2. Clara E. Weems b: 1904 in Texas 3. Lucille Weems b: 1906 in Texas 4. Troy G. Weems b: 1907 in Texas 5. Winnie May Weems b: 1910 in Texas 6. Viola Weems b: 1913 in Texas 7. Ruth Weems b: 1914 in Texas 8. Billie (Wm) Weems b: 1917 in Texas Lon descended - through an all male line - from Picts and earliest Scottish nobility through the House of Dunkeld to Methill to Wemyss/Weems. His first Weems ancestor to die on American soil was Revolutionary War Patriot, David Hamilton Weems , 1706 - 1779. Lon's sons and their sons continue this line of descent. Note: On Alonzo's death certificate, his parents are said to be W.L. and Sallie Weems and his birthdate is shown as June 16, 1879. This information was furnished by my Aunt Gus. However, on the 1880 Federal Census taken in Hopkins County, Texas, his father, William L. Weems is listed as a widower with a three year old son named "Lon", birth year 1877 and the 1900 Federal Census taken in Rains County, Texas supports the 1877 birth date. I have used the census data to establish his birthyear in this memorial.
