John was a twin. His brother and Mother died at their birth. His father married twice more. In 1890 John married Mary Lydia Long. They had Myrtle Lee Whaley (1897-1910) Mettie Emily Claudie (1900-1978) Leonard Vencile (1905- ); John Demarion Jr. (1908-1959) Fredna Marie(1910-1976) Janie Fae (1913- ) Mable, Cleo and one other son. John Operated a restuarant in the northeast corner of the square from 1918 to 1919. From 1920-1925 he had a feed store on First Street while operating a dray line from Dallas to Lancaster supplying merchants with ice cream and other commodities. He also operated gravel trucks used in the construction of county roads from 1920-1925. He and his wife had a washateria at the rear of the feed store and he delivered coal and wood by horse and wagon to local homes. His daughter could remember going with him to deliver caskets.
