James Waldo Busby was born 27 July 1889 El Dorado Springs, Missouri His mother was Anna Cranston Busby (1851-1937) and his father James Patton Busby (1835/6 - 1891) After his father’s death I 1891, Waldo and his mother moved back to Illinois where his mother set up a millinery business in Augusta. After about 20 years they moved to Augusta, Kansas where his Aunt Sarah Cranston Sullivan lived. Again his mother started a millinery business.He had worked as a chauffeur but was unemployed when he joined the 14th Infantry 19th Division in 1917 for WWI. He had a rank of Corporal when he left the service. On the 1920 US Census, he was rooming in Sedgwick, Kansas working as a Salesman. He married Ruth Kolbo (1895-1967) in 1928. From the 1930 US Census, they are living in Chicago Cook Co., Illinois where he is working as a mail order commercial artist and she as a salesperson. They are back in Seattle, Washington where she had lived earlier, for she is found in the Seattle City Directory for 1915, 1918 & 1928. As a couple by 1933 they are listed in the Seattle City Directory and in 1934, his occupation is listed as artist. By the 1940 US Census, they were living in Redlands, California. They lived in several places around Los Angles California before he died 10 Nov 1949 and was buried in the Los Angles National Cemetery Sec 311 Row A Site 17. Ruth died on the 7 Dec 1967 and was buried with him Sec 311 Row A Site 18.
