Esther was born September 20, 1918, in Jameston, Idaho, to Joseph Clarence Harker and Rhoda Esther Butt. Her mother died when Esther was 6 months old. Clarence then married Maggie Elvera Glenn. She grew up and attended school at Stanton and Shelley and graduated from Shelley High School in 1937. On December 15, 1936, she married her high school sweetheart, Joe Earl Dial, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They made their home in Shelley where they raised their twelve children on the family farm. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in the Primary, Relief Society and Scouting programs. Joe and Esther served an 18 month mission to the Nashville, Tennessee, Mission in 1981. They were blessed to be Temple Officiators for many years in the Idaho Falls Temple. She enjoyed her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Two days before she passed away, Esther Dial was blessed with her first great-great-grandchild. She loved to quilt, crochet, embroidery, cook sew, scrap booking, write poetry and genealogy. She taught her children the value of work by working side-by-side with them. Esther's great love for others was demonstrated by her many acts of service and kindness to her neighbors. She loved to travel and spent may winters in Arizona. Survivors include three sons and nine daughters: Terry Dial (Connie), Earl Dial (Margo), Dixie Stewart (Voyd), David Dial (Annette), Inis Landon (Kevin) all of Shelley, Idaho, Gloria Cunningham (Garth) of Ammon, Idaho, Mary Polson (Doug) of Sedalia, Colorado, Jane Cottrell (Jack) of Round Mountain, Nevada, Derena Ricks (Mike) of Rexburg, Idaho, Joyce Driscoll (Mike) of Pingree, Idaho, Jolene Smallwood (Robert) of Duvall, Washington, Lois Fletcher (Craig) of Challis, Idaho. Esther has 57 grandchildren and 106 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild. Surviving sisters include Gwen Roberts of Shelton, Washington, Rea Mallard and Ethel Jephson of Idaho Falls, and brother, Theo Harker of Carson City, Nevada. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe, two grandsons and two brothers. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16th, at the Shelley Stake Center, located 325 East Locust in Shelley with Bishop Dale Huntsman officiating. The family will visit with friends from 6:00 to 7:30 pm. on Sunday evening at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning at the Shelley Stake Center, 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
