Leroy Novotny Obituary Leroy D. "Roy" Novotny, 79, of Colon died Monday, April 18, 2005, at South Haven Care Center in Wahoo. He was born Jan. 23, 1926, in Weston to Adolph and Louise (Edie) Novotny. He attended country school in Weston. He entered the U.S. Army on May 20, 1944, in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and was honorably discharged on May 9, 1946, also at Fort Leavenworth. He married Dorothy Houdik on Nov. 3, 1948, in Colon. After their marriage, they farmed in Valparaiso, Linwood and west of Colon before moving into Colon in 1957. He then worked for Dogdale Construction in Omaha until he semi-retired in 1991. He continued to work for the town of Colon, Daryl Johnson and also the University of Nebraska research farm. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and the Colon American Legion Post 265. Survivors include: his wife; children, Connie Howie of Colon, Don (and wife, Donna) Novotny of Wahoo, Doug (and wife, Tudi) Novotny, Leroy (and wife, Lorre) Novotny, all of Colon, Annette (Mrs. Wade) Stewart of Wahoo, Marcia Triplett of Colon and Adolph (and wife, Marlene) Novotny of Omaha; three brothers, Jim Novotny of Rulo and Steve Novotny and Howard Novotny, both of Valparaiso; a sister, Ida Schindler of Valparaiso; 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Colon with the Rev. Troy Schwieger officiating. Visitation will be from 1-4 p.m. Wednesday at Svoboda Funeral Home in Wahoo and after 6 p.m. at the church. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Wahoo with military rites by American Legion Post 265. Memorials have been established to the church and American Legion Post 265.
