Jacob H. Smith was admitted to the military home at Leavenworth, Kansas, 19 Aug 1890. His record from there states that he was born in Pennsylvania and his age at admittance was recorded as 64. This places his birth in or about 1826. Jacob H. Smith enlisted two separate times for service during the Civil War. His first enlistment was 18 April 1861 as a 2nd Lieutenant in Co. K, 1st PA INF, at Harrisburg, PA. He was discharged later in 1861 and enlisted a second time at Philadelphia, PA, 25 Feb 1864 in Co. F, 186th PA INF. The record for Jacob H. Smith from the military home at Leavenworth lists him as a widower with his nearest relative shown to be his son Frank of Kansas City.
