From the July 6, 1950 Gotebo Record: Funeral services for Donald (sic) Slaughter of Long Beach CA are to be held Friday afternoon, July 7th, in the First Baptist Church in Cooperton with burial in the Gotebo Cemetery. Mr. Slaughter fell from an eight or ten foot scaffold while doing carpenter work on a job at Long Beach. Survivors include his wife and son, Robert L.; a brother, Eugene, all of Long Beach; a sister, Mrs. Steve Miller of Mtn. View and his father, E.C. Slaughter of Cooperton. Mrs. Slaughter is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Sam Floyd of Gotebo. * * * Second obituary listing: Robert Donnell Slaughter was born in Cooperton, Sept. 24, 1906 and died in Long Beach CA, June 30, 1950. He was married to Helen Floyd on May 5, 1928 in Hobart and to this union two children were born. He was preceded in death by his mother and an infant daughter. He is survived by his wife and son, Robert Floyd, both of Long Beach; his father, C.E. Slaughter and step-mother, Louise, of Cooperton; one sister, Mrs. Steve Miller of Mtn. View and one brother, Eugene, of Long Beach.
