GEORGE W. MIETZNER George W. Mietzner "Grandpa" George was born 4/24/1921 in Wilcox, Nebraska. When he was a young teenager his family moved to the Puyallup Valley. After graduating from Puyallup High School he started working at the FischerEFlour Mills in Tacoma. Frequently after work, George would stop at the Question Mark Restaurant, where he met his bride to be Corky. After a short courtship, (generally thought to have been less than a month) they married in September 1943. George spent the majority of his working career at Penwalt in Tacoma. After his retirement in 1984 he was able to stay in contact with many of his co-workers. One of his favorite places to be was in his vegetable garden at home providing for his "growing" family. After 50 years of marriage, Corky passed away in 1994. George is survived by his 4 children. Chuck Mietzner, Pam (Nick) Prasch, Mike Mietzner and Marie (Jim) Hoiland. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren. Nicky, Jeff, Sara, Tracy, Ted and Pete. More blessings were on the way with 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his long-time friend, Marge Kurowski. Always a giver, George will be remembered as an endless source of guidance, help and love. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM, May 8, 2009 at the Sumner Cemetery.
