Josie "Jo" Thompson Binder, 82, of Silver City, passed away Friday, October 16, 1998, at her residence. The family will receive friends at Bright Funeral Home, 6:00 m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, October 20 at 10.00 a m. in the Church of the Good Shepherd in Silver City with Reverend Gene Hutchins officiating. Interment will be Friday at 2:00 p.m. in Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX. Mrs. Binder' was born October 6, 1916 Rohwer, Arkansas. She was the daughter of Trudeau Thompson and Josie Falconer Pettit Thompson. Mrs. Binder married Samuel Henry Binder in 1950, he preceded her in death November 1993. Mrs. Binder is survived by three sons, Samuel H. Binder of Albuquerque, Eddie Binder of Rio Rancho, and J. Tom Binder and his wife, Cynthia of Tucson; her stepsons, James S. Binder of Greenville, SC Frederick Binder and his wife, Marie of Greensboro, NQ seven grandchildren. Rick Binder, Neal Binder, Carlos Aragon, Dane Binder, Maggie Binder, Carolyn and Susan Binder; two sisters, Hazel Parkhurst and her husband, Bill of Metarie, LA, Margaret Bolton of Baton Rouge, LA; one cousin, Lee Davis and his wife. Sue of Jackson, MS; and numerous other relatives. Mrs. Binder was preceded in death by her parents; husband in Nov. 1993; one sister, Margaret Dixon; one brother, Roger Richardson. She was a reporter and correspondent for numerous news outlets. She covered the Nuremberg Trials for United Press International as well as the US Congress and the White House. She covered state legislatures from Mississippi to Louisiana to New Mexico. She was a legislative correspondent for the Silver City Daily Press, El Paso Times, Farmington Daily Times, Deming Headlight, Grants Beacon and a Capitol column which was used by more than a dozen newspapers in New Mexico. She was a volunteer at the Silver City Museum, an avid golfer and bridge player and a member of numerous social clubs. Special friends and honorary pallbearers include Mary Lou Smith, Helen Downs, Norman and Tress Hodges, Bob and Thelma Barr and Ernie Mills. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gila Regional Hospital Program do Wanda Hall, 1313 32nd Silver City, NM 88061. Bright Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
