Bio
Donald L. Wyss, 73, of Dunlap, passed away at 2:40 a.m. on Monday, May 4, 2009 at Manor Court in Peoria. He was born on March 22, 1936 in Peoria to Harold and Ruth Brecklin Wyss. He is survived by three sons, Bart (Beth) Wyss of Indianapolis, IN, twin sons, Ryan Wyss of Peoria and Robb (Carrie) Wyss of Springfield, IL five grandchildren and one sister, Sue Austin of Peoria. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Jody Wyss. Don was a Woodruff High School three sport stand out, playing baseball, basketball and football. His baseball career continued at Bradley University, where his 1956 Bradley team won the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. At age 51, Don concluded his sensational 35 year Sunday Morning League legacy. He began playing at age 16 and set records that remain unbroken. He also served as President and Vice President of the league for many years. Don retired from District #150 in 1994 as the Richwoods High School Administrative Assistant of Student Activities. During his 24 years at Richwoods, he coached three sports and served as Athletic Director and Dean of Students. His fierce competitiveness won him yet another award. On February 18, 1989, he was inducted into the Greater Peoria Sports Hall of Fame. He was a Peacetime US Air Force veteran. Services were entrusted to Wright and Salmon Mortuary of Peoria, Illinois.
