Husband of Effie. Father of Gilbert, Billie, Bobby, Jerry, Nancy, Mary Anna. HIGBEE - John Machetta, 79, Higbee, died at 3:40 p.m. Saturday at Woodland Hospital in Moberly after an illness of two years. He was born Dec. 1, 1898 in Cole City, Ill., son of James and Marianne Coletti Machetta. He had lived most of his life at Higbee. He was a retired section worker for the former GM&C Railroad, now the Illinois Central Gulf. He was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church southeast of Yates. Surviving are the wife, Effie Lee, of the home; three sons, James Robert, San Lorenzo, Calif.; Jerry, Macon; and Billy Moberly; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Ann Nilson, Gypsum, Kan.; and Mrs. Nancy Brady, Moberly daughter-in-law, Mrs. Betty Machetta, Moberly; brother, Pete, Higbee; sister, Maie Duncan, North Hollywood, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, John Gilbert Machetta. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Million-Greer Chapel at Moberly, with Dr. Jimmy Maidment, officiating, and burial in Oakland Cemetery at Moberly. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today at the Million-Greer Funeral Home at Moberly. The family has suggested memorials to the cancer and diabetic societies.
