Tuesday Rites Held For Longtime Resident Clarence Christopher Funeral services were held Tuesday morning, July 8, for Clarence C. Chrsitopher, 83, who passed away July 6 in Hico City Hospital. Services were held at 10 a.m. in Barrow-Rutledge Funeral Chapel with Rev. Glenn Granger officiating. Burial was made in Hico Cemetery. Mr. Christopher was born August 19, 1891 in Aberdeen, Miss., the son of the late Andrew Jackson Christopher and Harriett Elizabeth Thomas Christopher. He was a member of Hico First Baptist Church. His wife, Mary Estell Christopher preceded him in death Sept. 15, 1974. Mr. Christopher had lived in Hico for 76 years and was the City Night watchman for 43 years prior to his retirement in 1968. He was honored in that same year with Clarence Christopher Day during the parade opening the Old Settlers Reunion. He was a resident of Village Nursing Home at the time of his death. Survivors are two daughters, Mrs. Alton Davis of Dublin and Mrs. John L. Moore of Corpus Christi; one son Claud C. Christopher of Paris, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Annie Kendall of Graham; one brother, Wood Christopher of Graham; three grandchildren. Pallbearers were W.H. Sherrard, J.B. Woodard, Buddy Randals, O.L. Davis, Jack Malone and Louis Chaney.
