Bio

Grady Staggs, 99, a lifetime Paducah resident passed away Saturday May 2, 2009 in Abilene, TX. Funeral Service is scheduled for 1:00pm Tuesday, May 5th at the First Baptist Church of Paducah with Pastor Ronnie Lambert officiating. Interment will follow at the Paducah Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of Seigler Funeral Home. Grady was born Oct 5 1909 in Cottle County to Oscar and Roberta (Bowers) Staggs On Nov 11, 1939 he married Doris Worley in Paducah. Grady was a lifetime farmer / rancher and in his early years he supplemented his income as a pitcher with a semi-pro baseball team. He must have been a very good pitcher because the Texas Rangers took an interest in his pitching abilities. Grady was a dedicated family man and when his kids were young he took them hunting and fishing whenever possible. In his later years he became an avid golfer. He loved playing golf but more than that he loved hunting for lost golf balls. He kept them all. His family found about 3000 of them in his basement. Grady was known to almost everyone in Cottle County. His personal signature to all of his friends was the traces of chewing tobacco the always had on his face. Grady was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers 4 sisters and his wife of 69 years, Doris Staggs, and son Preston Staggs He is survived by his sons and daughter in laws Larry and Beth Staggs of Knox City, TX Lynn and Debbie Staggs of Cypress, TX Danny and Melissa Staggs of Blanket, TX Terry and Anna Staggs of Justicberg, TX Pat Staggs of Paducah, TX 3 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren
