Bio
Ruby Jewell Gregory was born to parents William B. Gregory and Ila Lavelle Kizer. William, her father, died when she was very young and his grave site has not been discovered. It is almost definate that William is in an unmarked grave somewhere in Hunt County, Texas. On 30 Jun 1907, Jewell's mother was remarried to William Robert Denney in Hunt County. Jewell and her brother Gladner were raised with the Denneys and had three half sisters and one half brother. Jewell was very adamant about her name being Gregory. Many refered to her as Jewell Denney when she was growing up. In my younger years when I asked her once about her name being Denney, she replied, "Oh no, my name wasn't Denney, my name was Gregory and I let'em know it too." Then came the cackling laugh she so often emitted. Jewell never remarried after Dan, my grandfather, died in 1952 and lived alone for most of the rest of her life. She lived to see her husband and three of her four children die. She was a lovable, but tough and independent, lady.
