ALFONSO BARTEK WAHOO - Alfonso "AI" A. Bartek, 83, of Wahoo died Friday, January 5, 2007, at his home. Services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Wahoo, with Father Charles Townsend officiating. Burial was at St Francis Cemetery, with military honors by American Legion Post 308. Mr. Bartek was born Feb. 18, 1923, at Loma to Joseph and Blanche (Kavan) Bartek. He attended school at Loma and, after moving to Wahoo with his family in 1930, graduated from Wahoo High School. He served in the U.S. military in the Pacific Theater during World War II from 1943-46, spending two years in the Philippines. He married Erma Shonka July 23, 1946, at Presentation Catholic Church of rural Bellwood. He was the Meat Market manager at Safeway in Wahoo for 17 years. He later worked at Coast to Coast, Anderson Chevrolet and Gambles Store. He was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 1833, Weston American Legion Post 308 and Wahoo Eagles Lodge. Survivors include his wife; sons, Vaughn Bartek of Las Vegas, Rick Bartek of Davey and Kirk Bartek of Weston, daughter and son-in-law, Denise "Dee" and Ron Malousek of Raymond, seven grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant daughter, Renee, sisters, Celestine Bartek and Rita Reinwald; and brother Joseph Bartek. Memorials: To the church.
