Rita Golus March 31, 1931 - April 12, 2009 Rita Golus was born on March 31, 1931 to Walter Hammett and Katherine (Price) Hammett in Ft. Collins, CO. She spent her childhood in Ft. Collins and graduated from Ft. Collins High School. Rita married Harold Golus in 1958. She was a Grand Junction resident for the last 49 years. Rita was a music teacher, church choir director, church organist and a loving mother and grandmother. Before she married, she was an organist and choir director at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ft. Collins. Her husband-to-be, Harold, a tenor, joined the church choir so he could meet her. She taught piano and organ in Grand Junction. She and her husband played traditional German music for Oktoberfest in Grand Junction for 22 years. She particularly enjoyed playing ragtime music. Rita and her family lived in Cairo, Egypt from 1978 - 1979 while Harold, an agronomist with Colorado State University, was working on an agricultural water use project. Rita was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Harold Golus of Grand Junction; son, John Golus of Denver; daughter, Carrie Golus of Chicago, IL; brother, John Hammett of Kalispell, MT; sister, Sr. Mary Katherine Hammett of Bridgeton, MO and two grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 15 from 5 - 7:00 p.m. followed by a reciting of the Rosary at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary. A funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph's Catholic Church on Thursday, April 16, 2009 at 10:00 a.m., Father Edmundo Valera will officiate. Burial will take place at Orchard Mesa Calvary Cemetery.
