RAVENNA - Robert F. "Bob" Sheehan, 88, of Ravenna, formerly of Craig, Colo., died Monday, Jan. 26, 2009, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Ravenna. Memorial services for the family will be later. Burial of cremains will be in Colorado. He was born Sept. 30, 1920, in Litchfield to Fred and Susan (Craven) Sheehan. Survivors include his son, Fred and his wife, Rona, of Fresno, Calif.; nieces, Sharon Warta and Connie Larsen and her husband, Dennis, all of Kearney, Jane Kreun and her husband, Randy, of Pleasanton and Renee Sazama and her husband, Allen, of Doniphan; and nephews, Gary Warta and his wife, Brenda, of Grand Island and Patrick Sheehan of Denver. He grew up in Litchfield and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1938. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a radioman onboard several battleships in the Pacific during World War II. He received a Purple Heart at Iwo Jima. He was a competitive boxer in the Navy and continued to be a fan of boxing all his life. He loved to dance from a young age. He knew all the dance halls close to the Navy bases, but the Aragon in Chicago was his favorite. He was a handsome lad and there was no shortage of young ladies wanting to dance with him. He also had quite a reputation as a pool player. Following his time in the Navy, he lived and worked in the Litchfield and Grand Island areas for a number of years. In 1964, he moved to Colorado and started working for International as a shop foreman. He retired from there in 1982. He spent a lot of time in his own shop designing and building many interesting things to use for his hobbies. His fine collection of tools was always meticulously organized. He relished his independence. After retiring, he moved to the mountains near Oak Creek and later to Craig. He pursued his favorite pastimes of trout fishing and hunting elk, antelope, deer and even bear in the rugged Colorado Rockies. He enjoyed watching John Elway and the Denver Broncos even after returning to Nebraska in 2003. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elva (Sheehan) Warta; brother, Don Sheehan; and niece, Jody (Sheehan) Hunton
