Bio
Dorothy Brooks Childress age 83, a native of Conecuh County, AL and resident of Orange Beach for 51 years, died Thursday, July 20, 2000 at a local hospital. Mrs. Childress attended Huntington College, Montgomery, AL and was a founding member of the Gulf Shores United Methodist Church and presently a member of the Orange Beach United Methodist Church. She is also a founding member of the Ft. Bowyer Daughters of the American Revolution and of Colonel Dames of XVII Century and member of the United Daughters of the American Confederacy. Mrs. Childress was instrumental in obtaining a voting place in Orange Beach, Water System and Community Center. Mrs. Childress is preceded in death by her husband, Ted E. Childress, father, Dr. John R. Brooks, mother, Cora Sidonia Covell Brooks, and brother Foster R. Brooks. She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Long, Summerdale, A L; one son, Foster Childress, Orange Beach, AL; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Burroughs, Loxley, AL, Carolyn White and Sue Amason, both of Robertsdale, AL; grandsons, Ted B. Childress, Brooks Moore, and Wesley Moore; granddaughters, Katy Moore, Rebecca Dickens, and Robin Brunson; and two great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Jessie Dickens. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2000 at 10:00 AM from the Orange Beach United Methodist Church with Rev. Dick Brooks and Wesley Moore officiating with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery, Loxley, AL at 11:00 AM. A visitation will be held Saturday from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at the church.
