Rickie Stange, age 97 of Fremont, died Wednesday December 28, 2005 in Fremont. She was born December 17, 1908 in Hay Springs, NE to George and Anna (Behrens) Kennec. Rickie was baptized July 10, 1910 at St. John's in Yutan, and confirmed April 5, 1925 at St. John's. She attended Yutan Public Schools. Her mother died in 1917 and Rickie then helped raise her nieces and nephews. On September 27, 1928 she married Otto F. Stange in Papillion, NE. Rickie worked for her nephew at Stange Grocery in Yutan for 25 years. Most of her life was spent engaged, with her husband, in farming several farmsteads in the Yutan Community. They began farming on a place 2 Ω miles northeast of Yutan, then moved to a farm 1 Ω miles northwest of Yutan, then to a farm 5 miles south of Yutan, and back again to the place they began where they remained until retiring from farming in 1964 when they moved into the town of Yutan. Otto died in February 1986. Rickie boarded Districts 7 and 10 teachers in her home for many years. A devoted mother and grandmother, she enclosed a dollar bill in every letter she sent to her son while he was serving in the military. She was a kind, gentle, and soft spoken woman who enjoyed crocheting, sewing and cooking. Every Sunday, she prepared an elaborate noontime dinner for her family. Rickie was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and watched them on television every chance she got. She also enjoyed listening to University of Nebraska basketball games on the radio. In addition, she was a regular listener of radio commentator Bruce Williams. In 1989, Rickie moved to Fremont and lived with her son and daughter-in-law for six years. Due to failing health, she moved to Birchwood Manor in North Bend during March of 1995. In July of 1995, she moved to Nye Point in Fremont where she remained until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, brothers John, Dave and Otto Kennec, sisters Rosie Stange, Bertha Schulz, and Caroline Kennedy.
