Bio
John was probably the son of John David GARNER and Matilda Ann MARTIN. His parents were not included on his MS Death Certificate, which was completed by his son D.S. GARNER. His sister, Martha who was a daughter of John David & Matilda GARNER, was included in his obituary. John Walter can be found with his widow mother and siblings on the 1850 Montgomery AL census. He married Araminta D. (Mittie) ROWELL in 1881. They had eight children: David Samuel, Walter J, Calvin L, John M, James C, Catherine M, Everlena B & Mittie D. GARNER. See attached obituary. (Note: We no longer believe he was the son of Levi GARNER & Matilda COPELAND. That was Levi's second marriage and they did not have children.)
