Bio
He was the first baby boy born in LaVerkin, Utah on October 18, 1903 to William and Sarah Amelia Wilson Sanders. He married Mildred (Millie) Zabriskie on April 15, 1924 in the St. George LDS Temple. Moroni has been a dedicated public servant serving in many capacities in the community and church, some of these including 16 years as Mayor of LaVerkin, the LaVerkin Planning Board, president of the Hurricane Lions Club, president of Washington Country Fair and a temple worker. Moroni with his brothers Ervil and Bill started the turkey industry in Utah in the early 1930's. In 1951 he began ranching at Page Ranch, west of Cedar City raising prize Angus cattle until 1973. The remainder of his life he resided in LaVerkin. A loving husband and father, counselor, neighbor and friend, he will be greatly missed.Survivors include his loving wife of 71 years, Millie, daughters; Alda Jones, of LaVerkin; Fae Gibson and husband, Lyle Bates, of Mesquite, Nevada; daughter-in-law, Margaret Sanders, of Henderson, Nevada; brother, Owen Sanders; sisters, Delma Dutton, Lucille Humphries and husband, Allen and Amelia Squire; sisters-in-law, Belva and Norma Sanders; 13 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by son Verl and daughter Mildred; brothers, Ervil, Bill and Clarence; sister Maggie Barnhurst. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 25, 1995, 12 noon at the LaVerkin Stake Center. Visitation will be held Monday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Spilsbury-Desert Rose Mortuary, 525 West State Street, Hurricane and also on Tuesday at the Stake Center from 10-11:30 a.m. Interment will be held at the LaVerkin Cemetery under the direction of Spilsbury-Desert Rose Mortuary, 673-2454. -Deseret News, Sunday, July 23, 1995
