Maxine was born on July 27, 1917, in Dublin, Texas. She spent her early years there, graduating from Dublin High School, where she was a member of the girls' basketball team. Maxine attended business college in Fort Worth and then moved to Longview in 1945, where she was employed by her future husband, Dr. O. W. Elkins. Wayne and Maxine married on December 31, 1949. Maxine, a woman of elegance and grace, possessed a wide range of interests. She loved tending her rose garden, entertaining her family and friends, and most importantly, attending the Dallas Cowboys' football games, one of her favorite pastimes. She was active in her church, First United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the Thelma Morgan Sunday School Class and was a Sacristy volunteer. Maxine was also a member of the Camellia Garden Club, the Heritage Bible Study Group, Good Shepherd Medical Auxiliary and a sustaining member of the Junior League of Longview. She is survived by her husband, Dr. O. W. Elkins. Also surviving are her son, David, and his wife, Celia; granddaughter, Lindsay Elkins Barron and her husband, Brandon Barron; and by her daughter, Ann Elkins Brown, and granddaughter, Leigh Ann Brown. Maxine is also survived by her twin sister, Francis Sanders Littlepage of Baytown, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews. The Elkins Family gratefully acknowledges Maxine's care givers that have given so much of their love, time and talents to her for the last five years. The family also wishes to thank Dr. Margaret Schottstaedt and the devoted staff at Margaret's House for the loving care Maxine and the family received during her stay.
