1860 census P.O. Columbus, Jackson Twnsp. Johnson Co. MO HEAD: A.M. Christian age:49 farmer KY Jane age:48 KY Wm. L. age:22 MO (this is the right name/age) A.W. age:18 "M" MO Mary T.J age:15 MO Adilia H. age:12 "F" MO Albion age:9 "M" (Albert R) Nannie Dobyns age:23 KY M. D. Davashier age:26 "teacher C.S." Muster In card for the 27th MO. Mtd. Inf. date: 4th of July 1861 William L. Christian age 23 joined the regiment in Warrensburg, Johnson Co. as Pvt. He also furnished his horse/equipment. 3 year term. The 27th Regiment was disbanded and all men were officially discharged Feb.1862. This left Lt. William to "enlist as Pvt. Co.G 7th Cav. Mo. March 25/62. Was promoted Batt.' Q.M. Sgt.Major May 12/62. Mustered out as Q.M Sgt. Sept. 12/62. Was appointed 1st Sgt. Co.G 7th MO. Nov. 1/62. Promoted 1st LT. same Co. Dec. 25/63. And recommissioned 1st LT. Co.H 13th MO. Cav Vols. Sept. 13, 1864." Another muster card says, "Mustered in as 1st LT. Co.H 13th by virtue of his Excellency W.P. Hall, Gov. of MO. Sept. 13, 1864...." These 26 pages of muster cards, 13th only also say Lt. William was transferred and promoted to take the vacancy of command at Ft. Riley, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. Pages of good reading and a proud, excellent career. 13th Muster Roll Cards as an ending of his Civil War Career he was named as a Judge Advocate for Court Marshals and other hearings. The pension card gives Co.C 27th MO- Co.H 13th MO- Co.G 7th MO. and lists the Widow as Emma I. Christian, file date was 1925 May 8th in Oklahoma. And William had filed as an Invalid 1891 Aug. 15 from MO. This pension card does not mention "minors" death pension card 1870 census Troy, Bedford Twnsp. Johnson CO. MO BOARDING HOUSE William Christian age:30 MO "Principal of High School" William was one of dozens of roomers, AND in 1870 he was not yet married to Emma. (I believe this is our William but not sure 100% the age is not quite on but we all know how accurate our census records are) But it would answer how and why he was promoted so rapidly and handed the Command of Ft.Riley.
