Bio
Services for Eric Ottman will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, 2008, at the Ford Chapel of First Baptist Church, with Dr. Tim Watson and the Rev. David English officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens. Services are under the direction of Welch Funeral Home. Mr. Ottman went to be with his Lord on Saturday, March 21, 2009. Eric was born April 16, 1927, in Longview, to Hans and Ella Ottman. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Eva Neal and Lillie May Cobb; brothers, Herbert and Gerhart Ottman; wife, Billie Ottman; and nephew, Mark Ottman. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Eric Nathan Ottman and wife, Lori; and daughter, Candiss Haugen and husband, Mike. Eric is also survived by stepsons and their wives, David and Ernie Motley, Mitch and Sheree Motley, Neil and Susan Motley and Jim and Marsalyn Motley. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one great-granddaughter-in-law; sisters-in-law, Nelda Ottman and Jo Ann Dulany; brothers-in-law, Don Dulany and wife, Mary, and Frank Cobb. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Ottman graduated from Longview High School and the University of Texas in Austin. The Longhorns provided many hours of entertainment, some good, some not so good. He served as a U.S. Navy corpsman during World War II and worked for Lone Star Steel as a geologist for more than 30 years. Eric had been a member of First Baptist Church since 1941. He loved to work in the yard, travel and play golf. He was a member of the Pythian Lodge and served as Post Chancellor Commander. Eric also loved volunteering for Meals on Wheels. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Brian Motley, Jason Motley, Kyle Motley, Keith Motley, Aaron Motley and Mike Haugen. Honorary pallbearer will be Brian Motley.
