Stevenson, of D company, 49th U. S. Infantry, writes his mother, Mrs. Burt Stevenson, that, though the 49th artillery boys have crossed the pond, his company is still detailed for guard duty at Bush terminal, Brooklyn, N.Y. The resent explosion at Ft. Newark was just across the bay from where he is stationed. He says in his letter that the noise of the explosion was terrific, and the resulting fire made it light as day where he was on guard duty. Glen says that he sees ships in the harbor from all parts of the world. Among them was a large one from Russia, all the members of whose crew were Russian women. During a heavy gale which swept the coast recently, many small crafts were capsized and sunk. One flat boat which met such a fate loaded with four Overland trucks and many boxes of clothing. Glen says the trucks and most of the clothing were recovered. ------------------- Glen D. Stevenson formerly Sergeant of Co. D 49th Infantry has accepted an invitation from his Lieutenant to eat Xmas dinner with his old regiment now permanently stationed at Ft. Snelling, Minn., and leaves next week for that place. His army pal, Sergt. George H. Forst, will arrive in Columbus near the first of January for a thirty day furlough, during which time he will wed Miss Eliza A. Stevenson. Sergt. Forst has reenlisted for one year and will take his bride to the fort for that time. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ STEVENSON - GATZEMEYER ------------------- A romance of war days culminated in the marriage of Miss Linda R. Gatzemeyer, of Columbus, to Glen D. Stevenson, of Richland, last Saturday afternoon. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Wm. A. Albright at the Methodist parsonage. They were attended by the newlyweds, Sergeant and Mrs. George H. Forst, the latter a sister of the groom. The bride and Mrs. Forst were school chums, both having been graduated from the Columbus high school in the class of 1919. The groom and Sergeant Forst soldiered together two and a half years during the war, part of the time in France. Mr. Stevenson is the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Burt Stevenson, and is the third member of the household to marry within the last five months. He was recently discharged from the army. His bride is the eldest daughter of Wm. J. Gatzemeyer. She had been active in Sunday school circles and popular among her friends. Both couples left Saturday evening for Ft. Snelling, Minn., where the young men's old regiment is now permanently stationed. Sergeant and Mrs. Forst will make their home there for the next year, while Mr. and Mrs. Stevenson will visit relatives at Red River, Minn., and Galesburg, Ill., after a few weeks sojourn at Ft. Snelling. They will be at home to their friends at Clarks, Neb., after March 1. Info added by: M.Bolton
