Bio

Dovie was the daughter of Eliza Burse Coker and Ernest Vernon Patteron. On June 6, 1918, Dovie was married to J.M. Mabie in Hopkins County, TX. She then married Horace Buford Morton about 1920 in Hopkins County, TX. Horace and Dovie had one child, Minus Velpo Morton, born March 15, 1926 in Hunt County, TX. Dovie died 7 days after the birth of her first child due to puerperal peritonitis, an infectious complication of childbirth. Her son survived into adulthood. Dovie was the 250th person to be buried in the Emblem Cemetery in Hopkins Co., TX according to the cemetery ledger.
