Bio
Thomas Benton Coker was born in Mississippi to Joel M. and Nancy Coker. In 1860 they were in Itawamba County, PO Smithville. In 1870 and 1880, they were in Monroe County, PO Smithville. Smithville is right on the county line between the two counties. About 1881 he married Jane "Jina" Cowley, daughter of Thomas Jennings Cowley and Oyoutensis "Auy" Shurbet (Memorial# 43750521) who lived nearby. It seems likely they married in Monroe County. They had at least five children born in MS and the last in Nov of 1897 in Indian Territory (OK). Jina was dead by the 1900 census when Thomas was in Johnson County Texas. Jina's widowed Mother Aura along with four of her children had also come to Texas and was in Ellis County by 1900. It is possible the two families had travelled together . In 1907 Thomas married Carrie Wilson Allen after her husband Charles Allen died in 1905 in Kaufman County. Thomas and Carrie had at least three children together. In 1910 they were enumerated in Kaufman County with two of his children, five of her children and two of their children. 1900 Federal Census taken 6/11/1900, for Johnson Co., TX: Thomas B.
