Sioux County Index - September 19, 1968 Funeral Services for Al Vroonland Tuesday The community was very shocked to hear of the passing of Mr. Al Vroonland last Saturday evening. He was very well-known in this area as he has served as manager of the Cooperative Elevator at Boyden for several years, as well as manager of the Hull Bowling Alley and an employee of the Coop Association in Hull. Funeral services were held for Albert Vroonland, 60 years, of Boyden, on Tuesday, September 17, at 1:30 p.m. at the Boyden United Presbytersian Church, Rev. H. G. Schoon of the First Reformed Church, officiating. Mrs. Kenneth Meyn was the organist accompanied by Norman Moret who sang "The Lord's Prayer". Burial was at Hope Cemetery in Hull with the Kraai Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were six Coop Elevator employees: Calvin Heemstra, Harold Van Wettering, Ronald Dammstra, John Vander Maaten, Gerrit Kroon and Robert Henning. Mr. Vroonland, son of the late John and Anna Vroonland, was born October 14, 1907 at Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he grew to manhood and received his schooling. In 1930 be came to the Hull, la., area where he was employed. On November I6, 1954 he was united in marriage to Wilma Koele at Canton, S. D. They made their home in the Hull and Boyden area and lived in Boyden the past eight years where he was manager of the Farmers Coop Elevator. To this union three sons were born Evart Vroonland of Cedar Rapids, la. ; James Vroonland of London, Ohio; and David, who preceeded his dad in death. Mr. Vroonland passed away very suddenly Saturday, September 14 at 11:45 p.m. at the Sheldon Hospital at the age of 60 years and 11 months. He leaves to mourn his wife, Wilma, two sons, Evart and James and their wives, three sisters and one brother, Mrs. Stella Wierenga; Mrs. Eva Root**** both of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mrs. Minnie Marock of Chicago, Ill, and Peter Vroonland of Belmont, Mich., besides a host of relatives and friends. He was a member of the United Presbyterian church and was very interested in community affairs and was a boy scout leader which he highly loved to work with the youth.
